honey

This past Friday, I made, perhaps, the biggest decision of my life. I married the most handsome, charming, and adorable man, Ben at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden in Austin, TX. The day was perfect, 70 degrees, light breeze, an abundance of flowers, champagne, and dancing. But alas, it was also the day I parted with my beloved surname, “Honey.” Now, I am not complaining about changing my name to “Kennedy.” It has a regal, grown-up sound to it, appropriate as I just turned 30 in January. But let’s be honest, no one is going to respond with “awww, that’s so sweet” when I tell them my last name is Kennedy! All good. I’ve come to terms with it and find joy in my new, very grown-up name!

As a tribute to my maiden name, you’ve guessed it…we are talking about HONEY today! Oh the joys of HONEY! A medical miracle that is as pleasing to the digestive system as it is to the the tongue! Why is honey one of the greatest things on the earth, you ask? Here are just a few reasons:

Fight off Illness: Honey is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral! That’s right, fight off all the nasty stuff while satisfying your sweet tooth.

Improve Your Workouts: There’s a plethora of studies out that honey can help increase athletic performance. The glucose in honey is an effective substitute to fuel your workouts, while not polluting your body with harmful refined sugars and high fructose corn syrup. Add a little honey to your pre-workout smoothie for a snack that’s both delicious and effective.

Cease the Sneezing: Honey (local honey, that is), has shown to be an effective treatment for those suffering with allergies. Taking a teaspoon a day may help your body build up resistance through a process called immunotherapy. Similar to how we use vaccines to prevent illnesses, by taking in honey, you are gradually vaccinating your body against allergens.

Make Your Skin Glow: Honey is good for the skin for a number of reasons. It’s anti-oxidants slow the aging process. It’s antibacterial nature can help fight acne. Honey soothes dry, tired skin, giving you a natural glow.
